Who Is the American Legion?
I am your neighbor. I am your friend. I am your teacher. I am your student. I am your mailman. I am your employer. I am your employee. I am your doctor. I am your nurse. I am your future. I am your past. I am the here and now. I am the defender of our constitution . I am your father. I am your son. I am your brother. I am your mother. I am your daughter. I am your sister. I am your husband. I am your wife. I am an American. I am a Soldier. I am a Sailor. I am an Airman. I am a Marine. I am a citizen of this great nation. I am a Legionnaire.
The American Legion is the world's oldest & largest Veterans Organization. The American Legion is made up of veterans of the United States Armed Forces, Coast Guard & Merchant Marines. People from all walks of life are involved in the American Legion and Legion programs in every community across the nation. The American Legion was created to help the men and women serving in our armed forces, and those who served before them.
What Does the American Legion Do?
Over the last 80+ years, the American Legion has provided significant influence on the course of American history. The GI Bill, which provides education, economic, small business and home ownership assistance to qualified veterans, was created and named by Legionnaires.
We also work closely with elected officials at all levels of government to ensure the best benefits possible are available for our veterans and their families. Just as they were promised.
The American Legion takes great pride in caring for our countries future, our children. We have programs that focus on education, drug awareness, child literacy, flag education, scouting and baseball. There truly is something for everyone.

"It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion;
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press;
It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech;
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble;
It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial;
It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote;
It is the VETERAN, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag."
~~ Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, Lt. Col. USMC ~~
